WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT TO YOU?
SCRIPTURE: JOHN 14:26 (BBE)
”But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will be your teacher in all things and will put you in mind of everything I have said to you.”
Many believers know the name ‘Holy Spirit’ but do not know the person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a person; He is God, not an influence or a phenomenon. The more conscious we become of the person and His presence in our lives the more we can experience and enjoy Him. God in His infinite mercy, made provision for the help that we will need as we journey in this life. He did not want us to be without help or ever feel alone.
But how would we receive help when we do not know the helper? It is so important for us to make time to know the ever present helper in the person of the Holy Spirit. Look at John’s reminder in his first epistle: ”But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things” (1 John 2:20 KJV). Let us look at some of the attributes of the Holy Spirit and we will become more conscious of who we have in our daily walk with the Lord.
He is our Comforter: the Holy Spirit is often referred to as the Comforter who emboldens, support, and strengthens and encourages believers in our times of difficulties and crisis. Secondly He is our Counselor- the Holy Spirit imparts wisdom and guidance to us, helping us discern right from wrong.
Thirdly He is our Teacher: The Holy Spirit is seen as a source of divine wisdom and understanding, instructing us in our spiritual journey and understanding of the scriptures.
Then he is also our Intercessor- the Holy Spirit intercedes for us by praying with us and through us with groanings too deep for words. Finally, He is also our Helper- the Holy Spirit is the divine Helper of the believer in every facet of life. He is the one called alongside to help when you are in need. He helps us to navigate the course of life in our health, academics, finances, marriage etc
If this is who the Holy Spirit is, then you should be confident to go through this life no matter what life throws at us. You should not feel lonely or dejected, because your comforter lives inside of you. We should be able to speak boldly and with wisdom, because He is our counselor. You should be filled with knowledge, because He teaches you.
Your prayer life should not be a struggle, because He intercedes with you. Spend time in prayer so you get to know Him (the Holy Spirit) and as you know Him and experience Him you will enjoy His presence in your life.
CONFESSION
God I thank you for the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. I affirm He is my comforter, counselor, teacher, intercessor and helper. I am guided and helped in all I do because of His presence. I will not be confused, overwhelmed or discouraged. His presence makes a difference in my life. Amen
