CULTIVATE THE PRAYING HABIT

SCRIPTURE: EPHESIANS 1:16-18 (NKJV)

”I do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints…”

The times we live in present great opportunities for prayer. This is because even though we may face challenges in our personal lives, families, church, and nation, there is more revelation knowledge on the the subject of prayer that shows us the great potential of grace and help available to us to tap into through prayer.

There are some prayers written in the Pauline Epistles we must constantly pray for ourselves and others. This is because we can emulate the example of Apostle Paul who wrote and prayed these prayers through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He told the Ephesian believers that He prayed this prayer for them without ceasing. Indeed, this prayer was inspired by the Spirit of God and works like keys that open and bring into manifestation for us the great things we have in Christ Jesus.

The prayer in the opening scripture makes request about revelation into the knowledge of Christ for understanding to know the hope (purpose, plans, destiny) to which we are called, and the wealth of the glorious riches of Christ’s inheritance deposited in the saints in Christ. When we see expressions like ”in Christ”, ”through Christ”, ” by Christ”, ”in him”, etc in the New Testament, we need to pay very close attention to them.

This is because they speak of two main things: Firstly, they remind us of our union with Christ Jesus and who we are in Him through the new birth. Secondly, they draw our attention to the things we have in Him and can do by Him. Who we are in Him is our identity, what we have in Him is our inheritance, and what we can do in Him is our ability and potential in Christ Jesus and by power of the Holy Spirit in us.

By being doers of His Word and building up the Christlike nature in us, we will unleash the mighty man or woman within us outwardly. He wants us to be functioning powerfully and supernaturally. How does he do it? One important way is when we pray these Spirit inspired prayers without ceasing.

Anytime we pray this prayer, it is like activating His might by His Spirit in our lives. We therefore experience more of His might afterwards in our daily living and activities. Make it a practice of praying these prayers without ceasing. The power of God is activated more when we pray regularly and consistently.

PRAYER

I thank you, Father, for reminding me not to faint in prayer. I bless you for this priceless opportunity to have fellowship with you regularly through prayer. You are my source of life and strength. Thank you for making me conscious of my need for you through the person of the Holy Spirit. Surely, I will persevere mightily in prayer in Jesus’ name, Amen.
