THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CROSS

SCRIPTURE : I CORINTHIANS 2:2 (KJV)

”For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”

The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthian church, was emphatic that he determined to know nothing among them except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” In other words, this beloved Paul, who wrote two-thirds of the New Testament, had his mind largely focused on Christ Jesus and his finished work only. I am also convinced that God wants us to have our mind fully focused on the cross and to be conscious of the finished work of Christ Jesus.

Why so? Because this is at the heart of the New Testament. To be conscious of the cross and Jesus’s finished work means that you and I consciously see Christ Jesus, whose extravagant love for us led him to willingly die for us on the cross. Remember that Christ Jesus offered His own body to be punished, so that your body can be free from all sickness and disease; think about it.

A consciousness of the cross also helps you to reflect on how Christ Jesus, paid for and provided for your deliverance and victory over satan and demonic forces at the cross. At the cross, all your enemies were destroyed. All your diseases were destroyed. Your poverty was removed at the cross. Your sins were wiped out at the cross.

It is important to remember one thing at this juncture: what satan often seeks to do is find a way to entice you with sin, keep you sick and poor if you allow him. However, he can only do so through your ignorance, fear and especially a lack of a clear understanding of the New Testament and its better promises, provisions and operations.

Today, be assured, dear child of God that you will not die. Rather you will live to declare the works of God. Why? Because In Christ Jesus all your sins were judged at the cross, along with all your sicknesses, diseases, pains, failures and defeats! At the cross, all that is deadly in your life has been removed! This is what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross. Consequently, you have become an overcomer.

This is the reason for Apostle Paul’s emphasis on knowing and understanding the significance of tbe cross. Focus your mind and meditation on the cross. All we have and can be in our Christian life centers around Christ Jesus and the cross.

  PRAYER

I thank you Father for your divine provision for me in Christ Jesus. Through the cross on which Christ Jesus died, my sins, sickness, disease and poverty were destroyed. Hallelujah! By his resurrection I have become a new creation by faith. I am an overcomer in Jesus’s name. Amen.

1 PETER 2:21-25
[21]For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
[22]“Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;
[23]who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;
[24]who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
[25]For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
