TOPIC : BEWARE OF MOCKERS

REV. EKOW ESHUN

SCRIPTURE : II PETER 3:3-4 (NKJV)

…….”knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

There is a saying that, ”to be forewarned is to be forearmed.” Thank God for the Word of God and for spiritual leaders that understand our times and know what to do. Apostle Peter was one such leader. In today’s verses, he reminds us of something the prophets had said earlier, about some future events that are coming to pass in our days.

The prophets of old clearly made reference to scoffers or mockers that will rise up in our days. A scoffer is someone who mocks, ridicules, or shows contempt for someone or something—especially for serious or sacred things. In our context a scoffer or mocker shows contempt on Christ Jesus, the Christian life, the church, believers and anything that is of God. They enjoy speaking against the worship of God and all the good things believers do. They often try to cast doubts on God’s promises and what He is doing amongst His people, the church.

Actually, in our verse for today, we see how these mockers cast doubt on the coming of Christ Jesus. They also insist that no progress has been made since the fathers of the christian faith passed away. This is certainly an attack of Satan against believers, intended to make the believer doubt God and His promises.

What Satan seeks to achieve is to cause believers to depart from the faith and stop serving God. Listen to apostle Paul in I Timothy, chapter 4, verse 1:
”Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons…….” (NKJV)

Mockers or scoffers are motivated by deceiving spirits who also inspire demonic doctrines or teachings. As this verse also reveals clearly, satan’s aim is to cause some men and women to leave the faith. Let us be armed and prepared for mockers or scoffers. They are satan’s agents intended for our destruction. We must not entertain them in any way. We must avoid them and keep focusing on the Lord, following what our pastors and leaders have taught us and continue in the faith.

Your strongest defense against mockery and deception is to know your Savior and Lord Jesus better, know the Word better and stay passionate and dependent on the indwelling Holy Spirit so you can grow. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Stand up; stand up for Jesus!

        PRAYER

Thank you dear Father that by the power of the Holy Spirit in me, I can resist attacks of mockers in these last days. As I commit myself to follow my pastors, and to grow in the knowledge and application of the Word, I am confident of victory over any deception and trickery of satan and his agents. I affirm and take my victory over them all in Jesus’s name, Amen.

JUDE 1:17-21
[17]But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:
[18]how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.
[19]These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.
[20]But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
[21]keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
