TOPIC : YOU MUST LIVE A LIFE OF PURPOSE
REV. EKOW ESHUN
SCRIPTURE : EPHESIANS 5: 15-16 (AMPL)
”Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.”
One of the things which God has given us all in equal measure is the number of hours we have in a day. As individuals, we all have 24 hours in a day. Time is so precious that a minute of it can make a whole difference in your life. You and I cannot save or store time. You either have to use it wisely and purposefully or waste it on some things that are not necessary.
In today’s verse, Apostle Paul, by the Spirit of God, is reminding you and I to live wisely and purposefully as children of God. How do we demonstrate this life of purpose and wisdom? It shows in the way you use and manage your time. Your use of time, therefore, clearly shows whether you are living purposefully and wisely or not.
What does purpose mean? Purpose is the reason for something. Purpose always answers the question; why? What does it mean to be “wise” in this verse? To live wisely in this verse talks about not being wasteful but rather being a good manager of time.
As a child of God, your life and the use of your time must be for godly purposes especially. Because you have been bought with the price of the blood of Christ Jesus, your first and overall purpose in life must be to please God. Consequently, a good portion of your time must be devoted to Him and His service. Listen to Christ Jesus our Lord in John 4, verse 34
”My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” (NKJV)
Are you conscious of God’s will for your life? Are you mindful of the call to serve Him both within and without your local church? Can you boldly say that your daily walk with Him is your “food” or highest priority in life? Do you make time to attend church services? Are you making sacrificial contributions to your church’s welfare with your time, energy, talents, money or you are just a church goer?
As the scriptures above have indicated, the days we live in are full of evil and good opportunities as well. I encourage you to meditate on this to help you to live more purposefully and more wisely as a child of God.
PRAYER
I thank you, Father, that in your grace and mercy, you have made time and your wisdom available to me. I thank you also that I have the example of Jesus Christ to know how to live wisely and purposefully, especially on this earth. I depend on your grace to be a better manager of time and also to consciously live a purposeful life. The reason I live is to worship you in Jesus’s name, Amen.

ROMANS 13: 11-14 (NKJV)
[11]And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
[12]The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
[13]Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.
[14]But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”
