REV. EKOW ESHUN
TOPIC : THE MANDATE OF RECONCILIATION
SCRIPTURE: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:18 (AMPL) ”But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself (received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself) and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation(that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him).”
Today’s verse is basically about the business of winning souls. This is one of the most important jobs God has given us to do in this world.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the most relevant factor in our world today. In fact, He is God’s gift to a desperate, suffering and helpless world. John 3, verse 16 reminds us that, ”For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” (NKJV)
Our world needs our Lord and Saviour Jesus to escape the danger of perishing. It is because of the world that He came to die. It is, however, important to emphasize that the gospel message of Christ Jesus must be the priority of believers and the true church of Jesus Christ. This is because, as today’s verse indicates, we have received a ministry of reconciliation from the Lord. We have to share the gospel message with the world of unbelievers that Jesus still saves, heals and delivers.
This message is even more relevant and important in our world now for certain reasons. All over the world today, fear and insecurity are threatening many across nations. Economic hardships and war are two of the causes. It is a fact that more young people especially are dying these days more than ever before. Fear is gripping many. Hope is, therefore, fading away for many.
This is where we come in, as believers. Jesus is the hope the world needs to hear of, believe and experience. Incidentally, you and I, as the church and the body of Christ, are His mouth, hands and feet to speak, touch and respectively reach a suffering, fearful, hopeless world with the gospel. When we hear of the death of any unsaved person, whether old or young, it must bother us. Why? Because we have eternity in mind.
It is up to us to spread the gospel. Whether the gospel will reach the towns, cities and nations around us is really up to us. Our prayers are needed, our material and financial resources are needed, our initiative in personal evangelism is also needed.
God is counting on you and I. We have a charge to keep. By word and deed, we are required to fulfill our ministry of reconciliation by reconciling the unsaved world to God. We must take advantage of every opportunity to present Jesus Christ to the unsaved and to bring a message of hope to them. Determine to do whatever you can do now to help spread the gospel.
PRAYER
I thank you, Father, for the opportunity to be alive now. I thank you for the ministry of reconciliation you have given to me. With the help of the Holy Spirit, I can make a difference in the lives of my unsaved relatives, friends and others. I bless you for supernatural results as I step out to minister the gospel in Jesus’s name, Amen.
FURTHER READING (NKJV) JOHN 4:34-38
[34]Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. [35]Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! [36]And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. [37]For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ [38]I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
