TOPIC : ARE YOU MINDFUL OF YOUR FATHER’S BUSINESS?

SCRIPTURE : LUKE 2:49 (NKJV)”And He said to them, “Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

If you were in the shoes of Joseph and Mary, as parents and your 12 year old son or daughter made the statement above, what will your response be? And what kind of mind would you have about him or her? Some of you, parents, would certainly be wondering why and asking yourselves questions.

Why could Christ Jesus think and talk like that? It was because of His intimate relationship and experience with the Father. This awareness did shape his priorities and therefore, God’s will and business were his foremost priority. A little investigation into how Jesus saw the Father will help us to understand his actions better. Consider John 16:28: ” I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.” (NKJV)

Then consider John 5:17-18. ” But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” (NKJV)
What does this tell you? He was very conscious of the Father’s role in his life. He was also conscious of who sent him, where he came from, who was his boss and where he was returning to after finishing the work the Father assigned Him.

In John 1:18, Jesus declares boldly , ” No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared (introduced) Him.” (NKJV)
What a statement!

Over here, Christ Jesus boldly says He came to introduce the Father. To whom? To you and I. Praise God! That was part of his main assignment. To help us know the Father better. Let us meditate on a few questions today.

How much do you know your heavenly Father? How has this knowledge affected your involvement in your local church positively? Are you conscious of the fact that the Father has a specific work for you to do here on earth, especially in the church?

Remember, Jesus had this awareness and that shaped his mentality. Because of this, God’s will and agenda were always on his mind. What are you doing for God in the local church? Are you submissive to your pastor and cooperating with him in your local church?

PRAYER

Father, I thank you for the example of our Lord Jesus in his devotion to your business. Thank you for grace that enables me to make your business my priority too. My prayer is that I will continue to grow in my love for you and depend on the Spirit of God to help me walk in wisdom as I get busy and play my role in your house in Jesus’s name. Amen.

(NKJV) LUKE 19:45-48

Then he went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it,
saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy him,
and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.
