LET YOUR WORDS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

REV. EKOW ESHUN.

SCRIPTURE: Proverb 13:3 (NKJV)

”He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.“

One important spiritual truth that is worth affirming and repeating for you to remember and practice as a disciple of Christ is that your life follows your mouth. In other words what you usually say repeatedly shapes your whole life and will come to pass. It is the law of confession. Our Lord Jesus Christ practiced and taught this to his disciples as seen in Mark 11, verse 23; ”For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” (NKJV)

Clearly, we see this principle whilst our Lord Jesus is teaching on faith and how it works. He said; “you will have what you say, if you say it, believe it and never doubt it.” The same conclusion is seen both in today’s verse and this verse in Mark: your life is practically a sum total of what you have been saying constantly. This also means that whatever life I have now is directly related to the words I have believed and been saying up until now.

It is important for me to remind you that, God’s greatest gift ie salvation in Christ Jesus became yours by faith in and application of the same truth. You believed something, you said it and you had it as stated in Romans 10:9; ”that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (NKJV)

If this truth is powerful enough to help you experience salvation in Christ Jesus, how do you think your life will be shaped after receiving Christ Jesus? Surely, you must follow through and consistently apply this truth to every area of your life. That’s why today’s verse is an important reminder of how to live and shape your life for the success God has already given you in Christ Jesus. Your life and what you say are powerfully connected.

Your mouth is a creative weapon and your life follows what you believe and say. Whether for destruction or for success, your mouth plays a crucial role. It is time you made some serious choices in what you must say and what you should not. Jesus also warned us against using idle words in Matthew 12:36-37 (NKJV)
”36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Idle words are careless, useless and worthless words. Jesus further added that by our words we shall be justified or condemned. Your words spoken are consequential. You are either declared guilty or not guilty by your own words. You are either declared approved or disapproved by your own words. From today, determine to be responsible, reverent and calculated with your words. Enjoy the fruit of righteous and responsible speaking.

CONFESSION
I am empowered by the Word of God to use my mouth and tongue positively and profitably. As a righteous man, my tongue is a tree of life. I speak words of life, words of health and words that conform with my nature of righteousness. I am conscious not to use my mouth to speak idly, negatively or recklessly. I guard my mouth, therefore, my life is preserved. Glory to God! Hallelujah!

FURTHER READING (NKJV)

Romans 10:5-10
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
