WHY DID JESUS COME?
SCRIPTURE: JOHN 10:10 (AMPL)
”The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)”
When God, through Moses, spoke to the children of Israel about the promised land, He told them in Deuteronomy 8:9 that the Promised land was …..
”A land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing…” (NKJV)
This is a wonderful picture of God’s nature and abundant provision for Israel under Moses. Notice that even before Israel would go into the land, God had already made provision for them to live good, have abundance and not experience any scarcity or lack.
These were God’s people under the Old Testament. You and I as God’s children under the New Testament have something greater, higher and better. Why? Because we have a better covenant in Christ Jesus.
You can see this clearly in today’s verse. What Jesus gave us is a life that transcends every other kind of life, the divine life. It’s called “zoe” in Greek, ie the very life of God the Father. Consider I John 5, verse 11;
”And this is that testimony (that evidence): God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.”
This is the life that we received from the Father through Christ Jesus. It is a supernatural, unending, vigorous, enabling and vitalising life. Indeed, he wants you to experience this life more abundantly until it affects every area of your life.
This life is in your spirit and has the power to affect your soul, thinking, body function, finances, job, home and all of you. When God looks at you, He sees an abundant life overflowing in all you are and all you do. Settle it in your heart. Abundance is in your spirit. Abundance means you can have a life that’s much much bigger than you and therefore makes you a great and mighty blessing to others too.
Start meditating seriously on this. Don’t tolerate thoughts of scarcity and lack. They don’t belong to you. Remember that it is the conditioning or renewing of your thinking that produces transformation in your whole life. You are not an ordinary person. This divine life is at work in you. When you talk faith and live it out, you are releasing this abundance from the spirit realm into the natural. This is your life.
PRAYER
I bless you, Father, for your incomparable wisdom. Your love and provision for me was in place even before I professed Christ Jesus as my Lord and my Saviour. Thank you for your incomparable love for me. You are worthy of my praise.
FURTHER READING (NKJV)
1 John 5:9-13
[9]If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.
[10]He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.
[11]And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
[12]He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
[13]These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
