”But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people…..”
One important thing to know in order to be used by God to be a blessing to others, is to know your identity. Our verse for today tells us about our true identity in Christ Jesus. Our verse tells us that we are a “royal priesthood.” This means that we are kings as well as priests under the kingship and priesthood of our Lord Jesus Christ. This has never happened before in the history of God’s people.
In the Old Testament, kings and priests were two distinct groups of people. You were either a king or priest, but not both at the same time. Praise God for the new testament, because we are in Christ, we are kings and priests i.e. a royal priesthood. Kings have authority and territory. Ecclesiastes 8:4 tells us that; ”where the word of a king is, there is power.” Power here really means authority. When kings speak, things happen.
The words, instructions and commands of kings cause things to change especially within the territory they control. What can we learn here? We must use the Word of God and our words to change things in ours and other’s lives. This is what the centurion saw and asked Jesus not to come to his home but rather give a healing command. Matthew 8, verse 8 reveals this. ”The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.”
Often, Jesus would speak or give a command to situations and circumstances. Jesus spoke to sickness, trees, waves of the sea and evil spirits. That is a king in action, causing change with his words and commands. This is our example. Like the Lord Jesus, we must also learn to do more praying privately. However, when we rise up from prayer and begin to confront the issues of everyday life like sickness, demons and contrary circumstances openly, then it is time to let the king in you arise to speak boldly and authoritatively to change things.
Whether you are a pastor, christian businessman or woman, professional, housewife, remember that you have authority as a child of God. Also, as a king, learn to speak to situations in your life and world to change them for the better. This is how you release supernatural forces that will influence your circumstances for progress and victory.
Moreover, in case the devil comes to you with negative thoughts of fear, sickness, failure or poverty, you must remember that, you can rebuke those thoughts and still your mind with the peace of God. Use your spiritual authority to speak powerfully and see these blessings come to pass. You can and must rule your world and walk in constant victory.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I pray that you would enlighten my understanding so that I can better appreciate my identity as a king and priest of God. I affirm my spiritual authority and my ability to rule my world. Thank you for insight and wisdom concerning this role I have in Christ Jesus’s name, Amen.
