WHY IS GOD’S WORD A DAILY NECESSITY?

SCRIPTURE: JAMES 1:18 (AMPL)

”And it was of His own [free] will that He gave us birth [as sons] by [His] Word of Truth, so that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures [a sample of what He created to be consecrated to Himself]”

If there is one constant conflict you must overcome on a daily basis, it is the conflict of overcoming anything that will keep you from regularly feeding on God’s Word. This poses at least, 2 questions I want us to answer today.

  1. Why should you feed on the Word regularly?
  2. What are the things that hinder you from regular feeding on God’s Word?

Today’s verse gives us a direct and adequate answer. It will bless you to meditate on it. You and I were born again by the Word of truth. We have become new creatiures in Christ Jesus because of the action of God’s Word in our spirit when we heard it and believed on Christ Jesus as Saviour and Lord. I Peter 1: 23 also confirms this; ”having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.”

Praise be to God! Peter, the apostle, calls God’s Word incorruptible seed which lives and abides forever. This is the seed from which you and I have been born spiritually, thus producing God’s nature in us. Therefore, if you were given birth to by this seed of God’s Word, it stands to reason that you will be sustained by same.

That is why you cannot stay away from your source and grow spiritually. Indeed, you cannot neglect your source of life, strength and vitality and make progress. That is why Satan will use any tactics he can to keep you from regularly feeding on God’s Word. Your ignorance of the importance of God’s Word, laziness and bad company are just three of the influences Satan will use against you.

The enemy has a fair idea of how much your daily dependence on God’s Word can transform your life for success. It is widely believed by experts that the human body is about 60% water, that’s why no human can survive without water especially. Likewise, the new creature was born again with God’s incorruptible Word of truth.

The Word, therefore, is your life and your source of sustenance and your spiritual food. It is your source of progress and total well-being. The Word of God is indispensable. If there is one thing that you cannot afford to neglect anymore, it is the regular feeding on God’s Word. Determine to pay the price. Make God’s Word a priority for studying and practice in your life. Stay connected to your source. It’s for your own good and general progress.

PRAYER
I submit to your Word today, dear Father. I also yield myself to you, Holy Spirit, to help me cultivate a stronger appetite for the Word. Help me, also, to stay disciplined on daily basis to read, study and be a doer of the Word. I recognise that my whole life’s wellbeing depends on this. Thank you, Father, in Jesus’s name, Amen.

[18]knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,
[19]but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
[20]He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you
[21]who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. The Enduring Word
[22]Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,
