THE REASON JESUS CAME
SCRIPTURE: JOHN 10:10 (KJV)
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
In 1 John 3:8, we are told clearly why Jesus came. It says, “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (KJV)
What are the works of the devil? The first part of this verse reveals the works of the devil as sin. To sin means to err, break or violate God’s law. It also means doing things that are inconsistent with the will and plan of God. It includes wickedness, evil, destruction, sickness, pain, affliction, and even death, for the Bible says death is the result of sin (Romans 6:23).
Thanks be unto God, “Jesus came and abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” (2 Timothy 1:10, NKJV).
Praise be to God! That’s why Christ Jesus was born and hence the relevance of His birth, ministry, death, resurrection, ascension and enthronment. The fundamental reason for His coming was to destroy the works of the devil and bring us salvation.
The sickness, disease, pain, misery, and suffering in the world are all works of the devil. Christ Jesus destroyed all these works of the devil, and by his birth and coming, brought healing, health, light, joy and peace. He brought us an abundant life.
It is only fitting and proper that you and I celebrate his birth in particular as we remember His special place in our lives. It is important that we don’t treat this upcoming Christmas time only as a season for joyful social events. It will also do you good to take some time in this season to reflect on God’s dealings with you this year as it is gradually coming to an end in a matter of days.
There is always more to our life in Christ Jesus than we realise. God’s will is that we go from glory to glory in our walk with Him. See your life making now and into the coming year.
CONFESSION
I have the same life that Jesus has, in its fullness. As he is, so am I in this world. I am the object of His birth, coming and love. Nothing of the devil can stay and thrive in me, for I have received the glorious life that’s in Christ Jesus. I’m a partaker of the divine nature; I’ve overcome the world. Hallelujah!
FURTHER READING (NKJV)
ROMANS 5:9-12,17
[9]Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
[10]For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
[11]And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
[12]Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.
[17]For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
