THE SERVANT GOD PRESCRIBES
SCRIPTURE:
MATTHEW 24:44-45

”You also must be ready therefore, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not expect Him. Who then is the faithful, thoughtful, and wise servant, whom his master has put in charge of his household to give to the others the food and supplies at the proper time?”
It is very important for all of us Christians to be reminded that we are not our own. We are not independent; we belong to the Lord Jesus Christ. This is because it is He who purchased us with His own shed blood. Therefore, He is not just our Saviour, He has become our Lord or Master.
Our Master Jesus Christ is coming again. The first time He came, he came as a lamb, our Saviour. In his next coming, he is coming as a lion, as a king, as a Lord and master. Today’s verse gives us a clue as to what He expects us to be doing before He comes.
What are the issues in this verse? Firstly, we must be ready or prepared for His coming. Secondly, we must be busy in His service. Thirdly, we must show faithfulness and service in our service to Him. Today, I am interested in the issue of faithfulness. Notice that in this teaching, Jesus asks the question, ”Who then is that faithful, thoughtful and wise servant…?”
You and I are expected by the Lord to meet this qualification. This is the kind of person or saint our Lord Jesus wants us to be. That is, a faithful, thoughtful and wise worker. The word faithful means dependable, reliable and trustworthy. Let us judge ourselves and be sincere with ourselves:
Ask yourself, how faithful am I generally as a bride must be to a groom? Do I regularly spend time with the Lord in my personal prayer life? Do I enjoy serving in God’s house? Am I reliable enough to be available and busy in God’s house? Do I give excuses for not attending church services or not?
Do I struggle to give of my money and wealth to God’s business? Do my pastors and leaders consider me to be trustworthy and submissive? Am I struggling with sin or I enjoy pleasing God in my daily walk?
Are you ready to be that faithful, thoughtful and wise servant the Lord will find when He comes? This calls for sober reflection. We have a duty to be faithful. This is the watchword as you prepare for His coming. My heart’s desire and prayer is for you to repent from seeking to impress men and get more concerned about being faithful to Him.
PRAYER
I thank you, Father, for the opportunity to be your child and also your worker. I consider it a privilege to have the chance to serve you in any way. Your Word has already made clear what your standards are for your workers. Thank you for the help of the Holy Spirit as I endeavour to be faithful, thoughtful and wise as I serve you and not falter in ministry. I am confident of your sufficient grace in Jesus’s name, Amen.
