WHERE ARE YOU GOING ?
SCRIPTURE: LUKE 14 :28 (AMPL)
” For which of you, wishing to build a farm building, does not first sit down and calculate the cost [to see] whether he has sufficient means to finish it?
I once heard the statement that ” if you fail to plan, then you are planning to fail.” One of the main reasons we are told to plan is because plans reveal how we intend to do things we desire or how we intend to go from one point of achievement to another. When I consider the great opportunity you and I have in this life and this year in particular, there are at least 2 important questions that come to mind.
- What are you intending to become or to do with your life especially this year?
- How do you intend to achieve these desires and plans for 2023?
I believe that there must be something in your heart that you want to become. You may not say it with your mouth but it is a secret desire of your heart. It has to be something specific you want to be or to do.
Every one of us must be going somewhere in this life. I have heard it being said that if you don’t know where you are going, any wind will take you anywhere.
Today’s verse reveals similar thoughts. These words came from our Lord Jesus Christ. Clearly, all of us are trying to build something ie a life, a business, a family, a career, a ministry, a relationship with God etc In other words, we are all trying to achieve something or trying to reach a certain goal or target that will give us true satisfaction.
This teaching Jesus gives us is very necessary and practical. He instructs us to ” count the cost ” of whatever we want to be or whatever we want to do. Planning and counting the cost go hand in hand. This is a road we must all walk.
Whatever you want to become in life has a price. Whatever you want to do with your life this year also has a price.
A lot of people just take action without planning and counting the cost. The result is that, most of the time, they fail, fall and crash in the middle of their project because they often don’t have enough resources to finish what they started. What happened to these people and why?
It is because such people such people don’t take the time to count the cost of what they want to become or what they want to do. The wisdom in Christ Jesus’s teaching in today’s verse therefore tells us simply: walk in wisdom. Plan your goals for this year, count the cost of all that you want to become and do this year, and prepare for all that you need before you take action. The Holy Spirit is your helper.
PRAYER
I thank you father for the gifts, talents and abilities you have given me. Thank you also for time and opportunity at this point in my life as a believer. I am trusting you for wisdom as i plan and prepare to pursue my goals. Thank you that your grace enables me to make progress in Jesus name, Amen.
