CULTIVATE THE PRAYING HABIT
SCRIPTURE : EPHESIANS. 6:18 (NKJV)
”Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints”
It is important for us to notice this; effective prayer requires perseverance. Our verse for today makes it abundantly clear. What does it mean to persevere? It’s the ability to hold on without giving up.” It is continued effort to achieve something in spite of the difficulties.
In our opening verse, the Apostle Paul teaches us a few prayer lessons. We are to pray always or at all times. In other words the praying habit is mandatory for us to make progress as believers. Perseverance is also very mandatory for prayer to be effective.
Now listen to Jesus in Luke 18:1- ”Then he spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart”(NKJV). To lose heart means “to faint.” What is the Lord Jesus teaching us here? He is teaching us that in prayer perseverance is unavoidable. We cannot afford to lose heart or faint or give up when it comes to prayer. Why?
Man cannot lose heart or give up in prayer, because in Christ, we cannot function effectively and have lasting results without God. And since prayer is our connection line to God, the Christian, in particular can’t give up in prayer.
The cure or solution to not giving up in prayer is “Praying in the Spirit.” Praying in the Spirit is praying in sync and in synergy with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers, directs and supplies the supernatural utterance (words) for you to pray as you speak “in tongues” or in groanings too deep to express or articulate in words (Rom 8:28).
The importance of prayer therefore is based on the fact that our sufficiency (capacity, ability and efficiency) is of God. If God is not important to you, then prayer has no value to you because prayer is the ”natural” fellowship that flows between God and His children. It is part of satan’s strategies to get people discouraged. Often this discouragement comes in when things don’t work out the way we expected after praying. So stand firm in your faith and keep on praying. Don’t give up and don’t give in! Keep praying in the Spirit!
PRAYER
Father, I thank you for the awesome privilege of prayer and the supernatural power it releases. Thank you for the joy of fellowshipping with you which prayer offers me. Thank you also for the dynamic strength the Spirit of God supplies me from within so I can persevere in prayer in Jesus name. Amen!

ACTS 4:31-33
[31]And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
[32]Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.
[33]And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.
